Frequently Asked Questions
We deliberately chose multiple perspectives to show the complexity of the themes, but also how they intertwine in a complex struggle. Each character brings a unique perspective and expertise. This allows us to examine issues like sustainability and technology from different angles. By interweaving these perspectives, we wanted to not only give the reader a broad understanding of the themes but also show how different people and interests can be in conflict or harmony with each other.
The moral dilemmas are directly inspired by the world we live in. We're constantly confronted with questions about right and wrong, especially when it comes to sustainability and progress. Take, for example, the technology that makes life easier, but at the same time isn't always safe and harms the planet. Our characters face these same choices: will they act out of self-interest, or for the greater good? I believe their struggles reflect the challenges many people face today.
Nuwara's conflict is one that many activists face: how do you stay true to your ideals in a world often driven by economic and political interests? Her role as a forensic psychologist compels her to remain neutral, while her personal values call her to climate activism. This tension reflects the choices many people grapple with today, whether they are in an activist, professional, or personal context.
This tension reflects the conflict many people feel: the desire to do something good while being trapped in a system with limitations and responsibilities. It illustrates how personal ideals sometimes clash with professional duties, a dilemma perhaps familiar to many.
We invested a great deal of time in creating authentic characters with realistic motivations and inner conflicts. Noah embodies ambition and technological advancement, but grapples with the ethical consequences. Zoë brings human vulnerability and compassion to the story. In developing them, we drew inspiration from real-life dilemmas in the worlds of technology, sustainability, space travel, and personal responsibility. Their stories reflect the struggles we all face: how do you stay true to yourself in a world full of contradictions?
This was one of the most important aspects of the book for us. We conducted extensive research into indigenous traditions and spoke with people from these communities. It was crucial to respect their voices and ensure we avoided clichés or generalizations. We wanted to honor their wisdom and demonstrate how relevant it remains to today's challenges.
Technology is never good or bad; it's how we use it that matters. Ethics should always be central, but that often isn't the case. In the book, we wanted to show how technology can be both a powerful tool and a danger, depending on who controls it and with what intentions. This is something we, as a society, must remain critical of.
It's essential. We can't understand current environmental problems without recognizing how colonialism and exploitation have contributed to the Earth's depletion. This context offers a lens for understanding systems and devising solutions that are truly just.
