Article: I am water

I am water
I am water.
You don't have to look for me—I'm already here. In you, around you, everywhere. I flow through your blood, I move through the clouds, I fill the seas. Without me, there is nothing.
I am the first breath of life. Even before you were born, I carried you in your mother's amniotic fluid. I cradled you, I protected you, I gave your body the chance to form. And even after that, I'll continue to carry you. Every sip, every tear, every rain shower reminds you that I'm always there.
I am both gentleness and strength. I can smooth a stone, hollow out a mountain, shift a riverbed. I feed your thirst, and I can wash over you. I show you that life flows, that nothing stands still.
I am a cycle. I evaporate from seas and lakes, rise into the air, return as rain or snow, nourish rivers and oceans—and ultimately, I return to you. Nothing in me is lost. I change form, but I remain the same flow.
I am food. I make crops grow, I quench the thirst of animals, I nourish your body. Everything you eat, everything you drink bears my imprint. Without me, there is no harvest, no life, no future.
I am a mirror. Look into me and you will see yourself reflected back—sometimes clear, sometimes cloudy. I show you how you live, how you interact with me and with the earth. But I don't judge you. I'm simply there, patiently, waiting for you to listen again.
To the indigenous peoples, I am sacred. They speak with me, sing to me, and carry me in their prayers. They know I'm not just a resource, but a living being, an ally. They protect me because they understand: if I'm healthy, so are they.
I am memory. I remember the stories you've long forgotten. I carried the first fish, the first plants, the first people. I carried ships, dreams, prayers, tears. Everything that comes to me, I carry on. I am the thread that connects generations.
And I am the future. Every child born needs me. Every seed that sprouts, every bird that drinks, every body that lives. If you care for me, you care for them.
I ask only one thing of you: remember that we are connected. You and I. You are water. And as long as I flow, you flow with me.
